Week 3 of Fine art Friday has arrived! This week we started skipping around a bit. The next page in our book was on frescos but I didn't have the supplies I wanted for that so we did a combination. In our art project book we read about Botticelli who painted many of his pictures in a round format. From the Art History book we read about gods and heroes in art. Since many of Botticelli's paintings were religious it made a nice match.
Start by tracing around a large bowl and cutting out a circle for each child. Mine desperately wanted to paint this week so I've set them up in old cafeteria trays from Goodwill to keep the mess contained. (Note: old shirts from Mom and Dad make great smocks for kids!) We agreed that our first picture would be from a Bible story and the second could be whatever they wanted.
Connor painted Jesus in a boat (the stick figure is somewhat visible on the left) next to a large gray elephant and a sunset in the background. A bit of an amalgam of Bible stories but we'll take it!
Jasmine did her favorite Bible story - the birth of Jesus! She also did a second one in crayon of Batman, her favorite superhero.
After the paint was all dry we mounted them on a piece of dark blue card stock for final presentation. These would make great gifts for proud Grandparents!
Since I spent a fair amount of time supervising painting, I didn't do much this week. I whipped out a quick sketch of Jesus in the boat during the storm, but my painting skills are definitely lacking!
Personally my kind of art in the round would be photographic like this image here.
I hope you're inspired to do art with your kids today! Keep making beautiful things!
